Think you’d benefit from meeting virtually every once in a while?
When two people are in a room together, their bodies and nervous systems sync up to any factor we can measure – heart rate, respiration, temperature, etc.
On a nervous system level, when we have established rapport and are in a room together, there is a signal that my body can provide to your body that it is safe to “go inside” and do the inner work that is needed for transformation.
Think of it this way – if you are going to pause and notice what you are feeling inside, you would want to know that no other threats are around, and one way to know that with increased confidence is if someone is there to “have your back” in case a threat shows up. I can “have your back” if you are in the office with me.
I have been pleasantly surprised that the type of inner work I provide works virtually through the screen though it seems that some portion of it is “lost in translation.”
I offer telehealth as an option when you or I don’t feel well but would still like to meet. Or, if it happens to be a particularly busy season in your life, the only way to fit this in your schedule would be to take out the commute time and meet virtually.
A benefit of doing the work virtually is that you can be in a safe, familiar space. You can have all the comforts you would like at your disposal – your couch, a comforting blanket, your favorite drink – and you can take a step away if you would like. That can feel more natural than in the office.
There are some telehealth ground rules for safety and best practice.
You need to be in a space by yourself.
There needs to be a strong Wi-Fi connection where we can see and hear each other – either on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
I will not provide a telephone-only session as I would miss all the nonverbal cues.
For safety and security reasons, I will also not provide telehealth in a vehicle (either moving or parked).
I believe that in-person sessions are generally more beneficial. Still, we can meet online occasionally if meeting in person isn’t convenient or possible and if telehealth is the best vehicle to get the help you need.
For new clients, I want only to use telehealth as needed.
Are you ready to commit to therapy?
But need the option of being able to meet virtually every once in a while?
Telehealth appointments can be a good option when traditional in-person appointments are not convenient or possible.
